Abstract: This research, situated within the field of applied linguistics, aims to analyze the difficulties encountered in oral communication during the activity of spoken comprehension and to examine their impact on lexical acquisition among first-year middle school students, using "Laaribi Bachir" Middle School as a case study. The study employed a descriptive-analytical methodology, collecting data through questionnaires and classroom observations. The sample consisted of 100 students and 8 teachers. The findings revealed that a significant proportion of students experience difficulties in understanding rapid spoken discourse, primarily due to a limited lexical repertoire. These challenges stem from an interplay of linguistic, psychological, social, and educational factors.
