Abstract

After this journey we have been dealt with in the pre-Islamic poetry through the model of the poet Al-Harith ibn Ubad. It is possible to say that the concept of virility in his poetry was not only a linguistic stop or a rhetorical performance, but also a complex cultural structure. It holds socio-political and psychological dimensions. Al-Harith ibn Ubad presented the image of « virile » shown in the pre-Islamic Arabic culture as : the strong, the knight, the orator, the orientation owner and the wise if the situation requires that.This study aimed to econstract this image through a cultural critical course not only what being said but also why and how ; and the consequences of this saying in collective awareness and cultural imagination. Virility appeared through onsolidating the values of the tribe and symbolic dominance in a society based on conflict, pride and revenge. The study showed the qualitative transformation in the concept of virility according to Al-Harith. He was not only virile in the victorious sense, but also his virility was influencing with common values such as chivalry, justice and loyalty. This diversity is what distinguishes them from other people during pre-Islamic time.Through analysing a collection of peoms, Al-Harith was not only a poet of war but also a poet of attitude and consciousness. He realized that the word has a strong influence and the virile poet is the one who translates tribal values into immortal poetry. It expresses its identity and makes a linguistic and cultural glory for it to immortalize it in history.The study showed that virility is a wide cultural pattern based on male power production and the role of strenght, chivalry and heroism monopoly.
