| Description: | This study aims to become familiar with the development of foreign exchange reserves and to give an overview of the balance of payments situation in Algeria, in order to determine the effectiveness and role of these eserves in supporting the balance of payments during the period (2014-2018). The study used the "analytical descriptive" approach, which is considered the basic and important means in preparing scientific research in order to understand the theoretical framework of the research, and to study and analyze the reality very ccurately. This study concluded that changes in the elements of the balance of payments are the main source of accumulation of foreign exchange reserves in the Algerian economy, especially the current account based mainly on oil exports. It also concluded that the deficit in the Algerian balance of payments during the years of the studied period was primarily due to the low level of oil prices. Based on the results obtained, the study suggested the necessity for the Algerian monetary authorities to take all means to diversify foreign resources outside the hydrocarbon sector by working to diversify the Algerian economy and ensure competition and attract more foreign investments while working to improve the business climate in Algeria to improve the alance of payments position. And reduce the drain on foreign exchange reserves in light of the decline in fuel prices |
