Abstract: | Malva sylvestris L., commonly known as "Khobiza", is a food and medicinal plant belonging to the Malvaceae family. To evaluate its antibacterial, antioxidant, and antifungal effects, an experimental study was conducted using the dried flowers of the plant. This study also aimed to investigate the phytochemical composition of extracts prepared using 70% methanol as a solvent. The contents of polyphenols, flavonoids, anthocyanins, and mucilages compounds known for their beneficial biological properties were determined. DPPH and ABTS assays were used to assess the antioxidant activity. The results demonstrated a strong radical scavenging capacity, particularly for the hydromethanolic extracts, indicating a high phenolic content. The antibacterial activity of Malva sylvestris L. flower extract was evaluated using the agar diffusion method. Activity was observed against several bacterial strains, with varying effectiveness. In the practical part of the study, a fungizol, a mouth freshener, and a 100% natural mouthwash were formulated using Malva sylvestris L. extract, enriched with a natural essential oil, a flavoring agent, and a natural preservative. The goal was to develop a soothing and preventive product against oral infections, while remaining gentle and free of side effects. In conclusion, this study highlights the therapeutic potential of Malva sylvestris L. and supports its incorporation into natural pharmaceutical formulations as a safe and effective alternative to conventional treatments. |
