Description: Resveratrol (3,4',5-trihydroxystilbene) is a natural polyphenol and phytoalexin belonging to the stilbene family, found naturally in large quantities in grapes and red wine, and in smaller quantities in other plants such as peanuts and cranberries. Studies have proven that it possesses significant biological and pharmacological properties as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antiaging, cardioprotective, and neuroprotective agent. The present study aimed to conduct a comprehensive review of previous studies and research to verify the effectiveness of resveratrol in preventing neurotoxicity and diseases related to the nervous system such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, etc., and its effectiveness in certain behavioral tests such as anxiety, stress, depression, and memory. Most of these clinical trials have been conducted on rodents (rats and mice) in vitro, evaluating oxidative stress biomarkers (MDA, SOD, GSH, CAT, GPx), inflammatory markers (TNFα, IL-1ß, IL-6, IL-10, NO), and cellular signaling pathways (NF-κB, JAK/STAT, MAPK, SIRT-1, Nrf-2, AA, AP-1), as well as behavioral assessments in these animals. According to the results of studies conducted by researchers, differences are observed in oxidative stress and inflammation biomarkers (increase or decrease) as well as an improvement in behavioral performance in animals after administration or pretreatment with certain doses of resveratrol, confirming the effectiveness of its protective effects against neurotoxicity. However, research is still ongoing to prove its effectiveness in humans.
