Abstract: The current study purposefully considers why language teachers should use literary texts in the language lassroom, and what impact it has on learners ‘autonomy. To meet this end a descriptive study has been carried out in order to examine the effectiveness of literary texts in EFL classes, aiming to enhance learner’s autonomy through literature, taking responsibility for their own learning, and assisting EFL teachers in how to process literature in a way that captors the student’s attention. Therefore, two research tools are used; the uestionnaire, and the interview. The methods and results obtained from the use of the literary texts, teacher’s perceptions and the impact of investigating literature on student level were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed. Implications of findings for the use of literary texts for improvement purposes are drawn, and then suggestions students and teachers are provided.
