Abstract: This study aims to analyze the factors contributing to tomato infestation by Tuta absoluta in Mila province (Algeria) between March and May 2025. Among 55 surveyed farmers (all male), 89% reported infestations, mostly during spring, under favorable climatic conditions (moderate temperatures and high humidity). The larval stage was identified as the most damaging (56.3%), with significant damage reported during flowering and fruiting stages (44%). Economic losses were notable, affecting 70.9% of the producers. Although 65.9% of farmers rely on chemical pesticides (mainly chlorantraniliprole), 87.2% considered them ineffective in the long run. Between 2022 and 2024, both cultivated area and tomato production dropped (e.g., from 168.5 to 125 hectares in open field), likely due to pest pressure and climate stress. The study advocates for the implementation of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), combining monitoring, prevention, and biological methods for sustainable control.
