Abstract: This study aims to investigate metaphor and irony from a cognitive and pragmatic perspective, in order to understand how these linguistic tools are employed to achieve communicative and cognitive purposes. they are no longer mere rhetorical devices; rather, they have become two mental processes that are constructed and processed in the brin, extending to the pragmatic aspect and intertwining their roots with the context, where each plays a cognitive role in embodying knowledge. Focusing on the book"Metaphor and Irony :A cognitive pragmatic approach ," This study concludes with the necessity of integrating the pragmatic dimension with the cognitive dimension to achieve a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of metaphor and irony
