Abstract: | This study aims to uncover various signs that enable us to approach the pre- Islamic era and attempt to grasp different aspects of Arab life at that time, especially the aspects of time, place, and the poet's perspective on them. It seeks to extract various meanings and implications regarding time and place, whether on the surface or in the depths of discourse and the poet's view of them. Additionally, it aims to explore the significance of the poet's use of chronotopical space, extracting points of intersection between time and place, elucidating their forms and aesthetics. To clarify these meanings, the study employs semiotics as a procedural mechanism to reveal various meanings and symbols, in addition to other approaches such as thematic, psychological, structural approaches to elucidate the study's paths, adopting a Bakhtinian approach to analyze the hronotopical blending in the suspended poem. The study is divided according to a methodological plan onsisting of a theoretical introduction and three chapters interspersed with theoretical concepts followed by an applied study. The introduction discusses the concepts of semiotics, detailing its directions and schools. The first chapter is titled "The Semiotics of Time in Labid ibn RabiIa's Mu’allaqa," where the researcher examines the concept of time linguistically and terminologically, its types, and the pre-Islamic attitude towards it in poetry. The researcher follows the theoretical framework with an applied study of time in the poem. The second chapter is titled "The Semiotics of Place in Labid ibn RabiIa's Mu’allaqa" which also combines theoretical and applied studies. The research presents the concept of place, the Arab literary interest in it, its types, and its importance in life and literary work, then explains the relationship between time and place, concluding with an applied study of place in the Mu’allaqa. The final chapter is titled "The Chronotope formations in Labid ibn RabiIa's Mu’allaqa" addressing the concept of chronotope, its roots, and its artistic forms and importance in narrative discourse. It concludes with an applied study of chronotope in the Mu’allaqa. The significance of the study lies in connecting the analysis to the reality in which the poet lives and his philosophical views on fate, life, and death, understanding the reasons for the poet's attachment to time and place and their importance in his life, as well as highlighting the relationship between time and place and elucidating the various aesthetic and artistic values of the poet's employment of them. Among the most prominent results of the study is the importance of time in the life of the pre-Islamic Arabs and their view of life, death, and existence, as well as the poet's desire for permanence. As for place, it revealed the duality of fertility and desolation, departure and permanence, revealing the nature of life in the pre-Islamic era and its struggle against the environment. As for chronotope, it reveals its importance in human life and literary work, revealing the paths of the poet's life. |
