Abstract

This research, entitled "Characters in the novel Califora by Nabila Aboudi", is a theoretical and applied study of the various aspects of the character in this novel. In the first chapter, we presented theoretical concepts related to the idiomatic linguistic definition of personality, and personality in the Arab and Western critical study, in order to highlight the opinions of critics and scholars about this narrative mechanism, as the focus was on personality in Philip Hamon. The second chapter was the study of personality semiotically according to the method of Philip Hamon, which relied on mechanisms that were manifested in the types of characters in the novel, which in turn were divided into types, namely Reference figures, consisting of several types, are social figures, historical figures, religious figures, mythical figures, as well as allegorical figures and memorial figures.
