Abstract

The research dealt with the issue of identity and its connection to the analysis of realistic incidents that are in contact with the collective identity by touching reality in its affiliative parts under the title of the problem of identity in the novel “The Herbs of the Heart Are Not Black” by Naima Maamari.The following problem emerged from him: How did the contemporary Algerian novelist deal with the problem of identity?In order to answer this problem and reach a clear answer, we made an analytical study of the novel based on a semiotic approach. We have developed a plan that includes all the topics that enable us to accurately answer the problem. We divided the research into an introduction, two chapters, and a conclusion. Three chapters fall under the first chapter. In the first research, we dealt with the crisis novel in its linguistic and terminological concept and characteristics, while the second topic is represented in the literature of immigration and immigrants, its linguistic and terminological concept, characteristics and the most important issues of immigration, and we concluded this chapter with the concept of identity linguistically and idiomatically, its dimensions and identity.
